Need some tips on shipping birds. I happened to know weather inside the shipping container will be higher than the outside temperature. Is that true?

Birds are to be shipped when the weather is permitting. This is the normal policy for all stores (both physical stores or online stores) selling live birds and animals.

Yes, temperature inside a closed shipping container will always be higher than the outside temperature. Heat is the number one cause for killing the bird when birds are shipped. So, remember not to ship the birds in very hot or cold conditions.

It is recommended that birds not be shipped if the temperature anywhere on the route is above 85º or below 40º.

When shipping birds, shipping boxes should not be over packed . Placing more birds than recommended in a shipping box can cause over heating and additional stress.

Excess heat can be injurious or fatal to birds. Tolerance of heat and cold weather varies with species, age, and time of year.

I would say if you really doubtful to ship or not when you feel uneasy with the weather, you postpone the shipping.

It is always unkind to the birds to ship them in unfavorable weather conditions and also to place them in over-packed conditions just to save a few dollars in shipping expenses is even more unkind.

Also, when shipping birds like waterfowl, pheasants, etc make sure you do not ship these birds on a weekend or holiday.Because they may get stranded in the post office over the weekend and such delays would affect the bird. It is always best to ship on Monday or Tuesday.

Make sure they have enough food and water in the shipping box during the transportation time.

Once shipped, you can check the Transit Time and inform the buyer when to expect the bird. And tell the buyer to call their local post office and let post office know that they are expecting live birds. Once the birds arrive, buyer can pick them up ASAP.
