I am thinking of raising Peafowls. Concerned about their age and hatching.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what age would be the best to start with? I have hatched chicks,ducks, and geese...are they hard to hatch? Do they wander from home?  Do I need to keep them penned up?

If this is your first time with peafowl, I would reccomend getting eggs and hatching them, or buying peachicks.

Peafowl eggs are easiet to hatch under an actual peahen, or a brody chicken, like a cochin.

In order to answer the other questions, it would be helpful to know what kind/color peafowl you are planning on raising.

Thank you for answering this. First time with peafowls and planning to buy India Blue peachicks.

That would be a good choice for your first peafowl.  I started out with India Blue and now I have around 5 or 6 other colors, including the Java Green peafowl.  You could definetely hand raise those peachicks and let them go outside and let them get used to your property.  Eventually they could be free ranged.  When you free range them, they could wander around, but as long as they have food at home, they will definetely come back and stick around!

The hatch went way different than what I expected...

Most of the eggs came from the India Blue split to white peahen.

So I got white chicks, india blue split to white chicks, india blue chicks, and some pied chicks.

I will be posting some for sale soon, and you could buy them through an auction.
