I just brought in few of my chickens that I had ordered and now these chickens are going near the pond. They refuse to drink water from the water bucket near their coop. I am scared. I built this pond since I am planning to raise some wood ducks. But these chickens go near the pond which is increasing my heart beat rate. What if any of my chickens drown !!? My pond is 3 feet deep. I am having silkies... I was wondering what others do - who have pond for your ducks that your chickens have access to - how do you prevent these chickens from falling into the pond...? Help me.. |

| My chickens also drink from the pond but have NEVER gone in. I also have silkies along with Polish, Leghorns, RI Reds, Easter Eggers, Americauna, Cochins, Seremas and a few others. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Good Luck and don't worry. |

| Thanks annemarie. I was a bit anxious about the safety of these chickens... How deep is your pond? Do you have ducks? |

| My pond is about 3 feet max and goes down to about 1 foot in a dry summer. Sometimes I add water. The chicks love foraging on the edge but I"ve never seen them go in. Sometimes they fly over it to get to other side about 8-10 feet (even tho there is a small bridge for the horses, llamas etc, but they rarely ust it unless they are following me. The ducks usually go up and down the creek then settle in at the pond. I also get wild duck and no one seems to mind. I am incubating goose eggs right now so I'll see what happens then. |

Oh great!! Is incubating goose eggs same as any other eggs (duck eggs, chicken eggs, etc). Same incubating process and incubating period? |

| Goose eggs take about 28 days at 99-100 degrees. They Also have to be turned differently. Lying down you have to turn them from end to end 4-5 X day and periodically submerge the entire egg in water. |
