Good Morning,
This site simply looks like having many duck breeders. Can someone suggest me few ducks that I can keep indoors? |

I can't really suggest any that you can have indoors..i mean pekin, and cuyogas, and canvasback are fairly docile breeds but ducks pens do have an odor..i keep my ducklings inside for about a month or 6 weeks..once they're a couple weeks though they get graduated from a pen in the spare bedroom to a pen on the sunporch because no matter how much it's cleaned..it smells..and not even the smell..but they make a mess with the water..they love to play in it..i mean they're ducks after all..lol Also, ducks love to forage in the yard..eating grass and bugs...they'd miss that indoors..and where would they swim..they need at least a kiddie pool to get into..they need water to properly clean and groom themselves. |

Yeah, I do agree with what shicks0211 said.. But my friend kept a few ducks indoors. One of them was welsh harlequin drake. I don't know what breed of ducks were the rest. He used duck diaper harness to hold the duck diaper and the ducks did great! I was a bit upset when I saw them with diapers first, but I was amazed to see the ducks walking around with the duck diaper. He said he changes the diapers on each duck on average of every 4-5 hours and it is relatively easy to do. He kept air fresheners to avoid the bad odor. He used plastic wading pool and water deep enough to allow them to submerge their head and play. And the best part was that these diapers did not interfere with swimming or preening. He changed water very often and used the swimming water in his garden as a fertilizer. But, apart from all these, I would say you do a ton of homework before you consider keeping a duck as an indoor pet. After all, these ducks would love to free-range outside and play in water rather than being kept inside. Ducks are more likely to become depressed if they cannot swim every day. |
